Bethany College artists donate ceramic bowls for charity auction

On November 10, several members of the Bethany College community contributed handmade ceramic bowls to the Hutchinson 2009 Empty Bowls Charity Auction Project.

Students, alumni, staff and faculty of Bethany College participated in creating bowls for this charity event sponsored by alumna Alisha (Croomes) Jester, a 2008 art education major. Jester, originally from Salina, Kan., now teaches eighth grade art for the Hutchinson School District.

The Empty Bowls Charity Auction on Nov. 10 raised $3,000 in two hours. Along with a chili feed was a silent auction table where patrons were able to bid on local artist’s bowls. Proceeds from the evening will go towards Back Packs for Kids, Reno County Food Bank and the Heifer Project.

Bethany students Morgan Evans, Jamie Nelson, Bryan Giesen, Katelin Clawson and Brianna Zimmerling, alumni David Hardman, staff member Janie Tubbs and Professor of Art Caroline Kahler all donated ceramic bowls.
