The 2009-2010 Bethany Choir The Bethany Choir will perform at Bethany Lutheran Church in Lindsborg, Kan., on February 14. The choir, directed by Associate Professor of Music Daniel Mahraun, D.M.A., will provide worship music during both services at 8 and 10:30 a.m. in the sanctuary of the Bethany Lutheran Church, 320 N. Main Street in Lindsborg. The Bethany Choir will perform a varied repertoire of choral music. The 26 students who sing in the Bethany Choir are selected by audition, and represent nearly all disciplines on campus.
The Bethany College Jazz Ensemble will perform at Minneapolis High School on February 8 at 7 p.m. as part of the North Central Activities Association (NCAA) League Honor Band program. Director of Bethany’s Jazz Ensemble, Doug Talbott, will also serve as clinician and director of the league’s honor band this year.
Recent Bethany College graduate Serenity House, Salina, Kan., has been selected for the Kansas State Department of Education’s Teacher of Promise award. House will be recognized with Bethany College’s other recipient, Roni Whitman, Peetz, Colo., at the Kansas Exemplary Educator’s Network (KEEN) luncheon Feb. 25-26 in Topeka. The Teachers of Promise award is one of several honors presented by the Kansas State Department of Education to help recruit and retain the best Kansas teachers for Kansas children.
Bethany College invites high school seniors interested in art, music or theatre to audition for performance awards at Art, Music and Theatre Awards Day on Feb. 13. On the same day, high school seniors who meet certain criteria are invited to compete for a full-tuition scholarship and Honors Program admission at Scholarship and Honors Day. Students interested in performance awards should bring a portfolio or audition piece. Bethany offers performance awards for students who major in art, music and theatre, as well as awards for non-majors who participate in classes and activities.
