David Orr, professor of environmental studies and politics at Oberlin College, will address residents of central Kansas on May 19 at 7:30 p.m. in Pioneer Hall on the campus of Kansas Wesleyan University.
Orr will speak on the topic of “Resilience: The Future We Want” while encouraging participants to consider an alternative vision for the future of this region. His presentation will ask, “How do we build within the parameters of nature, fairly, decently, resiliently, openly and with compassion toward everybody?”
As a professor in Oberlin, Ohio, Orr leads a community-wide effort to reduce dependence on fossil fuels, the first of its kind in the country. Orr also spearheaded the successful design and construction of one of the nation’s first “living buildings” at Oberlin College. The building generates more energy than it uses while also capturing and recycling water.
This presentation is sponsored by Bethany College, Kansas Wesleyan University and The Land Institute.
