Per Harling

Per Harling, an ordained Lutheran pastor in the Church of Sweden, will serve as Pearson Distinguished Professor of Swedish Studies at Bethany College this fall.

The Pearson Distinguished Professorship in Swedish Studies is endowed by a generous gift from the late Gerald “Bud” Pearson. It was created so that students, faculty, staff and community members can explore and understand ways in which modern Swedish culture and experience can be learned and incorporated into their own lives.

Harling specializes in composing liturgical music and has written several books on worship life, hymns and biographies. In addition to teaching and working with Bethany students, staff and faculty, he will participate in several public events, including a public address on September 14, chapel services on September 1 and October 4, and a performance of his folk dance mass on October 9. Harling is also composing a morning prayer service specifically for Bethany. The world premiere will be October 1 at 10 a.m. in Presser Hall.
