LINDSBORG, KAN., February 29, 2012—In honor of her new book, Dickens, His Parables, and His Reader, a reception will be held for Bethany College Professor of English Linda Lewis on March 2 at 2:30 p.m. in Lindquist Hall. Lewis will also speak about her work in Friday’s Chapel service at 10:30 a.m. in Burnett Center. This is Lewis’ fourth book, in which she contends that of the fifteen novels Dickens published in his lifetime (1812 to 1870), nine of them discuss social and moral issues through Christian parable and allegory. “Dickens’ novels provide banquets of humor and horror, the melodramatic and the macabre, but he also offered his readers hefty servings of morality—much of it based on New Testament texts,” says Lewis.
LINDSBORG, KAN., February 27, 2012— Bethany College senior artist Suzy Lindsay, Hillsboro Kan.,will exhibit her Senior Art Show, entitled “The Reveal,” at the Mingenback Art Center at Bethany from March 8 to 13. A reception in her honor will be held on Sunday, March 11, from 2 to 4 p.m. with a gallery talk by the artist at 2:30 p.m. The exhibition and reception are free and open to the public. Lindsay is a studio art major with an emphasis in drawing. Her work consists of graphite, ink, watercolor, oil painting, print making, and black and white photography. Lindsay is inspired by a variety of subjects but focuses mainly on the human figure and flowers.
LINDSBORG, KAN., February 24, 2011—Flutist and Yamaha Performing Artist Ellen Burr will teach a master class at Bethany College and and give a concert on February 29. Both are free and open to the public. Burr will teach “Free Improvisation Clinic, Expanding Your Creative Potential” for jazz and classical players from 4 to 5:30 p.m. in Burnett Center on Bethany’s campus.
LINDSBORG, KAN., February 22, 2012—The Bethany College Music Department will present its second annual “Spotlight on Excellence” series concert on Monday, March 5, at 7:30 p.m. in Presser Hall. This performance is free and open to the public.
LINDSBORG, KAN., February 22, 2012— Bethany College Assistant Professor of Music Jared Chase was the recently guest conductor of several honor bands. Chase was the guest clinician for the Kansas Music Educators Association North Central District Middle School Honor Band on January 14. The ensemble included over 100 students selected from schools in north central Kansas, including Salina and Manhattan. Chase rehearsed the ensemble for a concert that afternoon at Junction City Middle School. “It was great to be able to work with these talented students and to have a chance to meet so many directors and parents in the area who attended the concert,” said Chase.
LINDSBORG, KAN., February 22, 2012—The Bethany College Music Department will host the Central Kansas League Music Festival on February 29 for approximately 800 high school band, choir, and orchestra students from Haven, Halstead, Hillsboro, Hesston, Lyons, Smoky Valley, Sterling, Pratt, Nickerson, and Kingman.

LINDSBORG, KAN., February 14, 2012—Bethany College welcomes potter David Rodenburg as a visiting artist at the end of February. Rodenburg will give wheel throwing demonstrations in the ceramics area of the Mingenback Art Center on February 28 from 7 to 9:30 p.m., and on February 29 from 11 a.m. to 12:50 p.m. and from 1:30 to 3 p.m.
LINDSBORG, KAN., February 14, 2012— Bethany College has accepted a $500,000 challenge grant from the J. E. and L. E. Mabee Foundation to complete fundraising for the Bud Pearson Swedish Chapel and Welcome Center, a new building located at the heart of campus to provide hospitality for all who worship, visit, learn, and work in the Bethany community.
