They were announced as recipients at Bethany’s annual academic honors banquet in May. The Spencer-Bartlett Senior Respect Awards are presented each year to the graduating man and woman who best exemplify the greatest respect for God, for the United States of America and for their fellow citizens. The awards are given in memory of Caleb Hall, Vera Hall Bartlett, and Spencer Bartlett.
Stein, Gypsum, Kan., graduated from Bethany last May with a degree in athletic training. She also earned the Swede Certificate in Leadership and a Youth and Family Ministry certification. She has been active in Bethany’s community as a member of Gold Key and Peer Ministry, coordinator of the Student Activities Board, a senior resident advisor, and senior class president. She plans to attend graduate school for physical therapy and eventually work with special needs children. Stein is the daughter of David and Denise Stein.Aspegren, Lakewood, Colo., graduated from Bethany last May with degrees in biology and chemistry. He has played basketball at Bethany, been a resident assistant, and a member of the Pi Sigma Chi fraternity and BioChem club. Aspegren will attend the University of Kansas School of Medicine. Each year nominations for the Spencer-Bartlett Senior Respect Awards are gathered from faculty, staff, and administration. A selection committee, comprised of the campus pastor, two members of the faculty, and two students appointed by Student Congress, makes the final selection. Winners receive a cash award and a certificate, and their names are added to a plaque on display in Presser Hall lobby.
