Local Singers Prepare at Bethany College Workshop

Choral Workshop 2012LINDSBORG, KAN., October 1, 2012—More than 190 high school singers from around the state participated in the eighth annual Bethania Pre-Audition Choral Workshop at Bethany College on Sept. 27.

Bethany’s music faculty helped prepare the singers audition pieces for their respective district, and eventually for the 2013 Kansas Music Educators Association State Honor Choir. Mass choir rehearsals were led by Jeffery Wall, D.M.A., assistant professor of music and director of choral activities at Bethany. Sectional rehearsals were led by additional members of the Bethany music faculty and guest directors. Singers in attendance came from 14 area high schools, including Andale High School, Central Christian School, Greeley County High School, Haven High School, Hesston High School, Hillsboro High School, Minneapolis High School, Sylvan-Lucas Unified High School, Nickerson High School, Larned High School, Smoky Valley High School, Rock Hills High School, Lincoln High School, and Ellis High School.

This year’s audition music included “Sing Unto God” by G.F. Handel and arranged by David Stocker, “Os Justi” by Anton Bruckner, and “Rejoice” by Jeffery L. Ames.
