Symphonic Band to perform concert on Oct. 11

Symphonic BandThe Bethany College Symphonic Band will perform a concert featuring the Bethany Horns on Oct. 11 at 7:30 p.m. in Presser Hall. This event is free and open to the public.

The group will perform music with the theme “A Musical Grand Tour,” featuring the overture from “The Barber of Seville” by Gioachino Rossini, “Swedish Folk Suite” by Eric Osterling, “March of the Belgian Paratroopers” by Pierre Leemans, “Australian Up-Country Tune” by Percy Grainger, “Hammersmith” by Gustav Holst, “Florentiner” March by Julius Fucik.

The Bethany College Symphonic Band brings together talented wind, brass, and percussion players to perform wind ensemble and symphonic band music from a repertory that spans the sixteenth through the twenty-first centuries. The group is conducted by Guy Vollen, visiting director of band/brass. He earned his Doctor of Music in composition at Florida State University and comes to Bethany from teaching at Wichita State University.

Bethany College, established by Swedish Lutheran immigrants in 1881, is a college of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
