Skate Camp proves to be popular for year three! The Methods of Elementary Physical Education class taught by Assistant Professor of Physical Education Jessica Becker led 35 children aged 4 to 9 on a three-day adventure of roller skating.
The Bethany students spent a week reaching a proficient level of skating themselves and learned how to teach skating. Then they planned, organized, and taught the campers. Nik Barre, Kaitlyn Davis, Jason Duffy, Tanya Garner, John Nguyen, Caton Scarry, Bobby Smith, Christopher Stegman and Amanda VanLoenen were the lead teachers. Assisting them were students from Movement Education, an elementary PE activities course.Quad roller skates were rented from Skatetime School Programs, a nationwide company that teaches and promotes quad and inline skating to elementary and middle school physical education teachers. This annual event has been made possible by the grant received through the United Methodist Health Ministry Fund. The camp was a resounding success with parents and kids alike requesting it be repeated next year!
