Singers invited to perform in the Bethany College Messiah chorus

MessiahSingers of all voice ranges are invited to join the chorus for Bethany College’s Messiah Festival of the Arts. Singers should be 16 years old by April 1 to be eligible to join.

The first rehearsal takes place on Sunday, January 27, in Presser Hall. New singers should arrive on at 2 p.m. in for vocal placement. No prepared song is necessary. Singers who have participated before should arrive at 3 p.m. for rehearsal.

Regular rehearsals will be on Tuesdays from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sundays from 3 to 5 p.m.

This year, in addition to the Bethany Oratorio Society’s traditional performances of Handel’s “Messiah” on Palm Sunday and Bach’s “St. Matthew Passion” on Good Friday, soloists from the American Spiritual Ensemble will take the stage on Easter Sunday to perform “A Spiritual Messiah.”

Though the full Messiah Festival Chorus & Orchestra will not perform for this concert, these soloists will bring culture, diversity, and the art form of the African-American spiritual to Presser Hall. It will be a musically reflective and uplifting experience that none should miss!

The Bethany Oratorio Society has presented Handel’s Messiah every year since 1882, making it the longest consecutive annual rendition in North America. World-renowned soloists perform with the Society for audiences at the college, across the plains, in Carnegie Hall, and on national television. Messiah is performed during Bethany College’s annual Messiah Festival of the Arts, when hundreds of guests enjoy the weeklong celebration of sacred music concerts, art exhibitions, and theatre performances.
