Read the e-anthology of Travel Writing

Associate Professor of English Kristin Van Tassel’s travel writing students journeyed to central Mexico for ten days during Interterm. You can now read their tales and view their artwork at Melissa Woeppel’s online e-anthology.

Van Tassel, Woeppel, Marcy Erb, Krista Akers, Amy Klatt, Carole Stuenkel, and Sarah Hill spent time in San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, and León.While in Guanajuato, students took conversational Spanish classes every morning through the language institute Escuela Mexicana.

Otherwise, given the task of “finding a story,” students determined how they would spend their time and where they would go. Their activities included visiting a Mexican folk art gallery, a botanical reserve, various museums, a state fair, a silver mine, and the universities of Guanajuato and La Salle as well as unstructured exploring. Students also met several Mexican university students who served as guides and companions in Guanajuato and León.
