Bethany College senior artist Grace Luther will exhibit her senior art show, “Inside Out,” at Mingenback Art Center on campus from April 25 to 30.
A reception will be held on Sunday, April 28, from 2 to 4 p.m. with a gallery talk by the artist at 2:30 p.m. The exhibition and reception are free and open to the public
This exhibition consists of drawings made with primarily soft pastel to create vibrant images. Through using the subject of self-portraits, Luther conveys a wide variety of images containing emotive situations that create an empathetic response from the viewer.
Luther, from Buffalo, Kan., is majoring in art education preK-12 with a focus in drawing. She conducted her student teaching at Meadowlark Ridge in Salina, Kan., from August to September and at Southeast of Saline in Gypsum, Kan., from October to November last fall. Luther’s interest in art education is due to her desire to influence children and to create art, and her lack of art education in her own high school experience made her want to become an art teacher. By going into art education, Luther wants to ensure that every school can have an art program, and her hope is that regardless of where she teaches, she can demonstrate that art is as equally important as all other subjects.
Mingenback Art Center is located on the corner of Olsson and Second Street on the Bethany College campus. It is open daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
