The essay “Looking Through Pascal’s Window” by Bethany College Associate Professor of Philosophy John Mullen, Ph.D., has been published in the January 2013 issue of Faith and Philosophy: The Journal of the Society of Christian Philosophers.
Bethany College ushered in the new year with Opening Convocation on Aug. 23 in Presser Hall. President Edward F. Leonard III welcomed the Class of 2017 to Bethany and described its worldview with Beloit College’s Mindset List.
Alumna from the Class of 2004 Emma Crossen, M.Div., spoke about her path throughout Bethany and where it carried her beyond graduation. Crossen is the director for stewardship and development at Women of the ELCA in Chicago. She graduated from Bethany in history and political science and from Harvard Divinity School in 2010 with a Master of Divinity.
Bethany College Theatre will hold auditions on Tuesday and Wednesday, Sept. 3 to 4, from 7 to 10 p.m. in Burnett Center for the fall production of Sarah Ruhl’s “Eurydice,” a beautiful and haunting reimagining of the classic myth of Orpheus.
Bethany College will honor Athletic Hall of Honor inductees, Alumni Coach of the Year, and Bethany Athletic Association Award of Merit recipients during the Fall Alumni Awards Recognition on Oct. 6 at noon in Stroble-Gibson Center.
On Aug. 19, more than 200 Bethany College students, staff, and faculty volunteered for the inaugural “Swede Sweep,” a day devoted to group service projects around Lindsborg. Projects took place across the community as well as along Burma Road and Bethany Drive with McPherson County road crews. More than 170 incoming freshmen and 35 upperclassmen Pathfinder mentors participated.
Assistant Professor of English Lori Brack, M.A., will read her essay “Touching the Buffalo” at the John R. Milton Writers’ Conference on Memory, Remembrance, Commemoration and the American West at the University of South Dakota in October.
Convocation is free and open to the public. Bethany students, staff, and faculty will attend.
The Bethany College Music Department invites members of the media and community to a press conference and reception to meet new faculty members Associate Professor Mark Lucas, Ph.D., Bethany Oratorio Society Conductor and Director of Choral Activities, and Assistant Professor Claudio Re, Ph.D., Director of Bands, on Saturday, Aug. 24, at 4 p.m. in Presser Hall.
President Edward F. Leonard III competed in the Sunflower State Games on July 14, placing first in his age group in the four swim categories, 50-yard and 100-yard backstrokes and 100-yard and 200-yard individual medleys. In those over 30, his times were best in the backstrokes and second-best in the medleys.
