An art exhibit titled “Survey” by Norman Akers will be on display at the Mingenback Art Center Gallery from Aug. 19 to Sept. 13, 2013. The exhibition includes a closing reception and gallery talk on Sept. 13 from 3 to 4:30 p.m. in the gallery.
Akers received his Bachelor of Fine Art in painting from the Kansas City Art Institute in 1982. He then earned a Master of Fine Art from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign in 1991. Akers is currently an associate professor of painting and drawing at the University of Kansas.
Akers has had solo exhibitions at the Lawrence Art Center in Lawrence, Kan., the Gardner Art Gallery at Oklahoma State University, and Jan Cicero Gallery in Chicago, Ill. He also has paintings in several collections including the Rockwell Museum in Corning, N.Y., National Museum of the American Indian in Washington D.C., and the Museum of Fine Arts in Santa Fe, N.M.
The exhibit is sponsored by the Kahmeyer Visiting Visual Artist Lecture Series at Bethany College. This fund is supported entirely by charitable contributions in honor of Ray Kahmeyer.
