High schools attend the Bethania Pre-Audition Choral Workshop

Bethania Choral Workshop 2013More than 160 high school singers from around the state participated in the ninth annual Bethania Pre-Audition Choral Workshop at Bethany College on Sept. 26.

Bethany’s music faculty helped prepare the singers audition pieces for their respective district, and eventually for the 2014 Kansas Music Educators Association State Honor Choir. Mass choir rehearsals were led by Mark Lucas, Ph.D., associate professor of music and director of choral activities at Bethany. Sectional rehearsals were led by additional members of the Bethany music faculty and guest directors.

All schools in attendance were Greeley County High School, Hesston High School, Rock Creek High School, Rawlins County High School, Lakeside High School, Holcomb High School, Smoky Valley High School, Haven High School, Larned High School, Flinthills High School, Plainville High School, Minneapolis High School, Andale High School, Lincoln High School, Hoisington High School, Nickerson High School, Thunder Ridge High School, and Sylvan Grove High School

This year’s audition music included “Veni Sancte Spiritus” by W.A. Mozart, “Cloth of Glory” by David L. Brunner, and “I don’ Feel No Ways Tired” Traditional Spiritual arranged by Stacey V. Gibbs.
