Professor of Political Science and Faculty Athletics Representative (FAR) Joyce Pigge attended the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Council of Presidents meeting from Sept. 29 to 30 in Kansas City. Pigge is the chair of the NAIA National Coordinating Committee and ex-officio member of the Council of Presidents.
Pigge has been involved with the NAIA since 1980 when she was appointed Bethany’s FAR. Since then, she has held numerous positions at the national level, including being elected to the National Executive Committee and chairing the Council of Faculty Athletics Representatives. Pigge has also served as treasurer of the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) and was a member of the NAIA District 10 executive committee.
In 2010, Pigge was awarded the NAIA Wally Schwartz Award for her outstanding service and dedication to advance small college athletics.
The Wally Schwartz Award, initiated by the Faculty Athletic Representatives Association (FARA), honors past NAIA Vice President of Legislative Services Wally Schwartz and annually recognizes Conference, Regional, and National Faculty Athletic Representatives of the Year. Award winners exemplify the loyalty, enthusiasm and honesty that Schwartz displayed during and beyond his time at the NAIA.
