Re to guest conduct the Heart of America Band

Claudio ReBethany College Assistant Professor of Music Claudio Re, Ph.D., and Sarah Bernard-Stevens from Kansas Wesleyan University will be the guest conductors for the Heart of America Band concert on Nov. 10 at 3 p.m. at Clay County Community High School.

The band performs once per year. Its membership is invitation-only and includes public school teachers and passionate musicians from the area. Free will donations will be accepted.

Claudio Re, Ph.D., is an advocate for universal music literacy, believing that enduring relationships with music and other arts strengthens all relationships, personal as well as professional, and provides avenues for expression of the artistic self that is inherent in each of us. His strong beliefs about the enduring benefits of music’s relationship with the community come from his Italian heritage and long association with Italian community bands.

Re received a diploma in trombone performance from the Luca Marenzio Conservatory in Brescia, Italy, a Master of Art in instrumental conducting from the University of Northern Iowa, where he studied with Dr. Ronald Johnson, and his doctorate in musicology from the University of Florida. He has previously served as visiting assistant professor of music at Kenyon College in Ohio.
