Board of Directors welcomes new members, Trust re-elects chair

Randy Berry The Bethany College Board of Directors welcomed two new members, Randy Berry, a career diplomat from Hillside, Colo., and Sean Patty, a business administrator from Ballwin, Mo., to campus for their first meeting in October. The Bethany College Board of Directors provides the college fiduciary, strategic and generative leadership. Berry and Patty began their three-year terms on July 1.

Jultide, a festival of lessons and carols, performed on Dec. 8

The annual music event, Jultide at Bethany, will be held Dec. 8 at 4 p.m. in Presser Hall (regardless of weather). This festival of lessons and carols will feature the Bethany College Choir directed by Mark Lucas, Ph.D., the Handbell Ensemble directed by Melody Steed, D.M.A., and the Bethany College/Lindsborg Community Orchestra directed by Daniel Masterson, D.M.A. Also featured will be the Bethany College Chamber and Chapel choirs and Dalkoren. Pre-concert music will be provided by the Bethany Concert Band directed by Claudio Re, Ph.D.

Poetry reading with Jason Ryberg and David Smith on Dec. 4

Jason Ryberg Bethany College will host a poetry reading with Jason Ryberg and David Smith and on Dec. 4 at 7 p.m. in the Nelson 116 Coffee Shop located in Nelson Science Center on campus. The reading is free and open to the public. Ryberg and Smith will read excerpts from a new book they co-authored, “Beauty Parlors, Train Yards And Everything In Between.” Open-mic night will follow.

Thank-a-Thon recognizes Stan Talbott Society

On Thursday, November 14th, students gathered in the Pit area of Pihlblad Memorial Union for Thank-A-Thon 2013.  Each year, this event, hosted by the Advancement/Alumni Offices, gives current students the opportunity to write thank you notes to those donors who helped them afford a Bethany education.  This year, thank you notes were written to members of the Stan Talbott Society.

Masterson selected as Kansas Music Teachers Association President Elect, adjudicates state auditions

Bethany College Associate Professor of Music Daniel Masterson, D.M.A., began his term as President Elect at the Kansas Music Teachers Association (KMTA) board meeting on Nov. 9 in Lawrence, Kan.  Masterson will become KMTA President after two years as President Elect. “I’ve been involved with various roles of  KMTA for over 25 years, and really appreciate the many fine people, and virtues of their programs,” Masterson says. “I am looking forward to serving the association in this way.”

Jazz Ensemble in concert on Dec. 5

The Bethany College Jazz Ensemble will present its winter concert in Burnett Center on Thursday, Dec. 5, at 7:30 p.m. The concert was rescheduled due to inclement weather on the original date. The concert will feature students Nichol DeChant singing “Come Fly With Me” and “Letter From Home” with Tyler Brenneman playing piano. Community saxophone player Anneliese Reinert will also be featured in “Georgia on My Mind.”
