This October, the estate of Robert Warren Lindblom benefited eight organizations, including the Salina-area institutions of Bethany College, Kansas Wesleyan University, and St. John’s Lutheran Church.
Each entity received over $15,000. Bethany and Kansas Wesleyan will use the funds to “provide Christian education in memory of Walter T. and Mabel F. Lindblom.”
“How wonderful that this Lutheran alumnus of Kansas Wesleyan University saw the bigger picture of his faith and his alma mater – and left behind a legacy of how each of us makes a difference in living out our faith and values,” says Bethany College President Edward F. Leonard III.
Lindblom was a graduate of Kansas Wesleyan and a member of St. John’s, where he had served as Sunday school teacher, secretary, and superintendent. He was also a member of the Elks Lodge No. 718 and American Legion Post No. 62 and a volunteer for Meals on Wheels.
“We are honored to receive this generous gift from Mr. Lindblom. He embodied the Kansas Wesleyan spirit, and his generous support for these three institutions will ensure that many people in the region will continue to receive the benefits of a Christian-based education,” says Kansas Wesleyan University President Matthew R. Thompson.
Lindblom, born on Aug. 31, 1918, and raised in Salina, Kan., is the son of Walter T. and Mable F. (Olson) Lindblom. He was a World Word II Army veteran serving in the U.S. and Philippine Islands and worked for the Kansas Department of Transportation in personnel and accounting, retiring in 1992 after 46 years. He died Nov. 3, 2012.
“This is exactly who Bob Lindblom was. For generations now he will continue to bless others and bring love and smiles to his congregation and his community. He always did know how to inspire people,” says St. John’s Lutheran Church Senior Pastor The Rev. Ed Foster.
