Invitation to join the Bethany Oratorio Society

All interested singers and orchestra musicians are invited to join the Bethany Oratorio Society this season, to perform Bach’s “Passion According to St. Matthew” on Good Friday and Handel’s “Messiah” on Easter Sunday.

Interested persons must be 16 years of age by April 1, 2014, to participate.

Rehearsals begin Sunday, Jan. 26th in Presser Hall Auditorium, Bethany College, Lindsborg.   New singers are asked to come at 2:00pm for a quick and easy vocal placement.  Interested orchestra members should contact Dr. Mark Lucas at Bethany College, at 785-227-3380.  Full rehearsal with Chorus and Orchestra begins at 3:00pm until 4:30pm.  A reception will be held afterwards in Presser Hall Lobby.

The Bethany Oratorio Society rehearses Handel’s “Messiah” every Sunday afternoon from 3:00-4:30pm. Child care will be provided for the Sunday rehearsal time at Messiah Lutheran Church, located just across the main driveway from Presser Hall.  The Oratorio Society will also rehearse Bach’s “Passion According to St. Matthew” on Tuesday evenings from 7:00 – 9:00pm.  Singers may choose to only participate in “Messiah.”   However, to participate in “Passion According to St. Matthew,” one must also participate in “Messiah.”

The Oratorio Society will perform Bach’s “Passion According to St. Matthew” on Good Friday, April 18, 2014.  They will also perform Handel’s “Messiah” on Easter Sunday, April 20, 2014.  The Oratorio Society is directed by Dr. Mark Lucas.

Membership in the Bethany Oratorio Society is free and open to all.  Interested persons must be 16 years of age by April 1, 2014, to participate.

Every year since 1882, the Bethany Oratorio Society has presented “Messiah” at the college. The Bethany Oratorio Society has performed “Messiah” across the plains, in Carnegie Hall, and on national television.
