A new music opportunity at Bethany College will be introduced this fall when the Bethany Drumline takes the field at Swede football games. The newest music ensemble was announced by Claudio Re, assistant professor of music and director of bands at Bethany.
“I believe music is important to a community,” Re said. “The drumline will support the football team, but I think it will also directly impact our community. Bethany has a long tradition with the Blue Dozen pep band and now we have an opportunity to start a new tradition with the drumline.”
Auditions for the drumline are scheduled for May 10 at Bethany and are open to any student interested in participating in the new program. Audition material may also be submitted via video web-link to Dr. Re at firstname.lastname@example.org. “It’s a good opportunity for non-music majors to get involved in the music program at Bethany,” Re said.
Bethany College alumni Brandon Draper, ‘01, a percussionist from Kansas City, will help get the new program established as a clinician at a pre-season camp. Draper received his degree in music from Bethany and a master degree in percussion from the University of New Mexico. He grew up in Lindsborg and graduated from Smoky Valley High School.
Scholarships will be available to students that qualify and a pre-season camp for new drumline members will be held early this fall. For more information regarding auditions or other questions, please contact Professor Re at (785) 227-3380, ext. 8334.
