Ron MacLennan is a professor of religion at Bethany College. He formerly served as Humanities Division Chair and is a Johan Seleen Distinguished Professor of Religion. He has been a member of the Bethany College faculty since 1989.
At Bethany College, MacLennan teaches classes in Christianity, theology and biblical studies.
MacLennan currently serves as a Pulpit Supply contact person.
In 1997, MacLennan was granted a sabbatical to serve as a visiting scholar at Boston University and at the Paul Tillich Archives at Harvard University. He has written many articles about Tillich and was granted another sabbatical in 2004 to write a book. He is currently is working on two Tillich books.
MacLennan has served on the Board of Directors of the North American Paul Tillich Society as vice-president and president. He also is professionally affiliated with the American Academy of Religion, and Deutsche Paul-Tillich-Gesellschaft.
Previously, MacLennan was Bethany College Campus Pastor. He has been Assistant/Acting Director of Continuing Education at the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago. He also has served as a pastor at Reformation Lutheran Church, Wichita, Kan., and St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Atchison, Kan.
MacLennan earned his Ph.D. and Th.M. in Systematic Theology from the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago. He earned his M.Div. in ministry from Union Theological Seminary and his A.B. in Chemistry and Physics from Harvard University.
