Planning Guide

Consider these items as you plan to study abroad:

  • Begin planning at least a year in advance
  • Visit the International Student Coordinator to
    • Find a place and program of interest (except for Harlaxton)
    • Ask about the costs associated with the programs and additional expenses incurred when studying abroad
    • Look into program specific scholarships
  • If interested in Harlaxton specifically, please speak with the Faculty Representative, Dr. Joyce Pigge.
  • Schedule an appointment with Financial Aid to
    • Discuss aid application deadlines
    • Look into additional options for funding
  • Talk to the student advisor about classes to take and a graduation timeline
    • Try to find classes to be used toward a degree, not just electives, in order to make the most of the investment
    • Remember, taking a semester abroad may mean an additional semester at home, which could add additional costs later
  • Once a program is chosen
    • Make contact with the program office
    • Obtain travel information such as required dates and times for arrival and departure, possible group flight options, etc.
    • Ask for a cost sheet to turn into the Office of Financial Aid
    • Stop by the Office of Student Life to fill out an off-campus housing form for the semester abroad
    • Touch base with the academic advisor and Enrollment Services to ensure proper enrollment has been taken care of and all necessary paperwork has been received
  • Once abroad, remember to stay in contact with Bethany via e-mail for important information and deadlines
