“Hands down the best student I’ve ever had. Eric strives to go above and beyond in every situation. Eric is extremely book smart and mentors and assists classmates with homework and studying. Eric understands the behind-the-scenes work such as insurance, packing medical kits, and preparing teams to take the road is just as important as evaluating an injury. Eric has great leadership skills.”

Involvements at Bethany: Athletic Training, Blue Key, and Bio-Chem Club

Plans for Future: I plan to attend medical school and pursue a career in Sports Medicine.

Why did you choose to go to Bethany? I chose Bethany because I could continue to play baseball and further my education. Bethany was the place I could do both.

What has been your favorite memory from college? My favorite memory from college has been from my sophomore year when I went to the NAIA National Wrestling Tournament. I worked this tournament as a Student Athletic Trainer.

What drives you as a person? My biggest drive is to reach my future goals. I consider myself a perfectionist. I want to prove to everyone that I will reach my goals. Also, to have a job that I love.

What are your hobbies? Hunt, Fish, Golf, Going to the lake, Hanging out with friends, Long walks on the beach, and being a pain in the butt to everyone.

Jazz Ensemble in concert on Dec 7

The Bethany College Jazz Ensemble, directed by Visiting Assistant Professor Courtney Long, M.M., will present its winter concert in Burnett Center on Tuesday, Dec. 7, at 7:30 p.m.

The Jazz Ensemble, made up of instrumental music students, will present a variety of popular styles of music including funk, swing, and everything inbetween. The student artists to perform are Melissa Woeppel, trumpet; Regetta Rhodeman, trumpet; Kaleb Feist, saxophone/clarinet; Tyler Breneman, piano; and Logan Schmitt, bass. Continue reading

College/Community Orchestra Presents Fall Concert Dec. 9

OrchestraThe Bethany College/Lindsborg Community Orchestra will perform on Sunday, Dec. 9, at 4 p.m. in Presser Auditorium.

The event is free and open to the public. The orchestra, conducted by Richard Koshgarian, will perform von Weber’s “Overture to ‘Der Freischutz,’” Beethoven’s “Symphony No. 8 in F Major” and Christmas and holiday selections by Mannheim Steamroller. Symphonic Band to Perform Concert on Nov. 11

Jordan SchwartzThe Bethany College Symphonic Band will perform a concert on Nov. 11 at 4 p.m. in Presser Hall.

The group will perform music with the theme “Berlioz and Beyond.” The student soloists featured in this concert are senior, Kaleb Feist on tuba featured in “Beelzebub” by Catozzi and freshman Samantha Anderson on French horn, featured in “Concerto for Horn in E-flat, Opus 11” by Richard Strauss. The concert will also include a salute to veterans of the U.S. armed forces. Continue reading

Collin Carlson, a senior from Olathe, Kan., is the son of Ed and Jodi Carlson. He taught social science at Salina South High School in Salina, Kan., under the direction of Elizabeth Burke. Alyssa Cox, a senior from Smith Center, Kan., is the daughter of Margo Cox. She is currently teaching elementary education at Eisenhower Elementary School in McPherson, Kan., under the direction of Kari Moddelmog.

Alexandria DeLong, a senior from Admire, Kan., is the daughter of Brelana and Darryl DeLong. She is currently teaching high school art at Smoky Valley High School in Lindsborg, Kan., under the direction of Gretchen Elliot.

Lisa Faimon, a senior from Stratton, Neb., is the daughter of Tom and Teri Faimon. She is currently teaching the second grade at Soderstrom  Elementary School in Lindsborg, Kan., under the direction of Julie Heitschmidt.

Timothy Green, a senior from Washington Island, Wis., is the son of Phil and Sandy Green. He taught social science at McPherson High School in McPherson, Kan., under the direction of Jace Pavlovich. He is currently teaching social science under the direction of Brian Wilson at Prairie Hills Middle School in Hutchinson, Kan.

Colton Grove, a senior from Belleville, Kan., is the son of Dewy and Lisa Grove. He is currently teaching the second grade at Concordia Elementary School in Concordia, Kan., under the direction of Sarah Hutchinson.

Kipp Keffel, a senior from Colorado Springs, Colo., is currently teaching social science at Southeast of Saline High School in Gypsum, Kan., under the direction of Todd Baird.

Chelsea Kenyon, a senior from Iola, Kan., is the daughter of Russell and Trudy Anderson. She taught music at Schilling Elementary School in Salina, Kan., under the direction of Nancy Bauer. She is currently teaching vocal music at Salina Central High School in Salina under the direction of Ryan Holmquist.

Shane Valdez, a senior from Moscow, Kan., is the daughter of Marcie Knoll and Tom Valdez.  She taught physical education at Roosevelt and Eisenhower Elementary Schools in McPherson, Kan., under the direction of Mija Stockman. She is currently teaching physical education at Salina South Middle School in Salina, Kan., under the direction of Marcia Troutfetter.

Tamara Worcester, a senior from Lindsborg, Kan., is currently teaching sixth grade reading and language arts at Smoky Valley Middle School in Lindsborg under the direction of Jill Hubele.

Scott McClure named interim director of athletics

Scott McClureScott McClure has been named the interim director of athletics for Bethany College.

McClure replaces long-time athletic director, Jon Daniels, who is leaving the position to focus on continuing the success of the Bethany men’s golf program and developing a women’s team. McClure began his duties on Oct. 15.

Provost and Dean of the College Ken Macur says, “Scott has worked for many years with NAIA schools, and his perspective will be invaluable. We look forward to his leadership.” Continue reading

2012 Homecoming royalty selected

Homecoming Court 2012Twenty Bethany College students were elected to the 2012 Homecoming court during the college’s Homecoming festivities on Oct. 12 and 13.

Every year, Bethany students elect ten female and ten male senior students to be Homecoming candidates and select the Homecoming royalty after a second round of voting. Joshua Snider, Tehachapi, Calif., and Alexandria DeLong, Admire, Kan., were crowned the 2012 Homecoming king and queen. Continue reading

OrchestraThe Bethany College/Lindsborg Community Orchestra will perform a concert on Oct. 14 at 4 p.m. in Presser Hall. This event is free and open to the public.

Choirs to perform concert on Oct. 16

Choir 2011-2012Bethany College Choirs concert will be held on Oct. 16 at 7:30 p.m. in Presser Hall. This concert is free and open to the public.

Directed by Assistant Professor Jeffery Wall, D.M.A., the concert is a part of the Spotlight on Excellence Series, “Earth Tones.” It will feature Vokala Lejon (men’s ensemble), the Chamber Choir, and the full college choir as well as special guest the Garden City High School A Cappella Choir, conducted by Jane Vanderhoff.
