Accounting Mission

The mission of the Accounting Program is to prepare students for life-long learning and to enter the business world in diverse capacities to pursue careers in government, industry, and public accounting and to further academic training in graduate programs.

Student Learning Outcomes:

An Accounting graduate will:

  1. be able to properly apply generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) in the preparation of financial statements.
  2. be able to use appropriate cost and mangerial accounting techniques to prepare information for decision making.
  3. be able to work in teams.
  4. be able to communicate effectively.
  5. be able to solve problems.
  6. be able to pass, with a C or better, the capstone course BU390, Business Policy,
  7. be able to acquire a job in their career within eighteen (18) months after finishing their formal education.

Business Administration Mission

The mission of the Business Administration Program is to prepare students for careers in business and related fields. This program provides general knowledge in business from both the theoretical and practical perspectives. Students learn the important ingredients effective managers need to not only survive, but also succeed in today's business world. This major provides a solid foundation for admission into M.B.A. programs.

Student Learning Outcomes:

A Business Administration graduate will:

  1. demonstrate an understanding of business principles and financial practices
  2. be able to translate business information into effective oral and written communication or action.
  3. demonstrate an ability to formulate organizational strategies.
  4. be able to apply interpersonal skills, individual, and group behavior dynamics to business practices for motivation people in the workplace.
  5. be able to pass, with a C or better, the capstone Course BU390, Business Policy.
  6. be able to acquire a job in their career within eighteen (18) months after finishing their formal education.

Business Teaching Major 6-12 Mission

The Bethany College Education Department strives to instill in candidates teh knowledge base, teaching skills, as well as professional attitudes and values necessary to become exceptional, reflective teachers in a diverse culture.

The Business Teaching 6-21 Program seeks to prepare graduates for careers in teaching business by providing a value based education through professional coursework in the fields of accounting, economics, management, marketing, business technologies, and leadership.

Student Learning Outcomes:

A Business Teaching graduate will:

  1. have a working understanding of the business core areas of accounting, economics, management, marketing, business technologies, and leadership.
  2. be able to work effectively in teams.
  3. be able to communicate effectively in a business environment.
  4. be able to solve problems.
  5. be able to acquire a job in their career within eighteen (18) months after finishing their formal education.

Economics Department Mission

The mission of the Economics program is to offer students an educational experience that develops their ability to understand how the interrelated activities of consumers, business, and government influence people's daily lives both domestically and internationally. Overall, graduates of the economics program will possess the communication and critical thinking skills necessary to: (1) hold entry-level positions in either the private or public sector; (2) make significan contributions to these entities in their roles as auditors, researchers, analysts, or policy makers; or (3) enter a graduate program in business, economics, or law.

An Economics graduate will:

  1. be able to problem-solve, make decisions within constraints and assess resource allocation, distribution, and public policy.
  2. be able to apply the principles of economic theory and practices to analyze real world problems.
  3. be able to demonstrate knowledge of how market systems function and how these functions may be improved.
  4. be able to pass, with a C or better, the capstone course BU390, Business Policy.
  5. be able to acquire a job in their career within eighteen (18) months after finishing their formal education.

Finance Department Mission

The mission of the Finance Program is to offer students an educational experience which provides a balanced mix of finance theory and practical application, at the undergraduate level. The program seeks to prepare graduates with the knowledge of financial concepts and the analytical skills needed to pursue a variety of careers in corporate and government financial management, investments, portfolio analysis and management, financial analysis, financial planning, banking, and insurance.

A Finance graduate will:

  1. be able to understand, analyze, and manage the process of value creation.
  2. have an ability to work effectively in teams.
  3. have an ability to communicate effectively in a business environment.
  4. have an ability to solve problems.

Management Department Mission

The mission of the Management Program is to provide students with a broad base of business skills that will prepare students for the challenges and opportunites encountered in today's business environment. This program provides the flexibility for students to tailor their course work to a specific interest in business or to take a general business approach. Graduates of this program are prepared for a wide variety of career opportunities.

Management Program, International Management Concentration Mission

The mission of the Management Program, International management Concentration, is to provide students with a broad base of skills that will prepare them for a dynamic, global, and diverse business environment. Graduates of this program are prepared for a wide variety of international career opportunities.

The International Management Concentration graduate will be able to:

  1. function in the increasing global marketplace by understanding other cultures and responding to the issues that impact the domestic and world economy.

Marketing Department Mission:

The mission of the Marketing Program is to provide students with an understanding of the important concepts of marketing with an emphasis on emerging technologies. The marketing program offers students a comprehensive understanding of the marketing role in business, including sales, advertising, retailing, management, market research, and strategy. The program seeks to prepare graduates for careers in sales, pricing, product management, distribution, advertising, and promotion, market research purchasing, and related fields.

A Marketing graduate will:

  1. have an understanding of the relationships of marketing with other business functions including operations, finance, accounting, human resources, and strategic planning.
  2. have the ability to work effectively in teams.
  3. understand the applications of media to marketing programs, problems, and solutions.

Network Marketing Mission Statement:
The Bethany College Network Marketing program seeks to promote integrity, trust, and transparency in network marketing, a business model that is underrepresented in education.

Student Learning Outcomes:

Students will have the ability to:

  • Emphasize and practice the Ten Characteristics of Servant Leadership.
  • Apply the principle of servant leadership to network marketing.
  • Work effectively in teams.
  • Communicate effectively in a business environment.
  • Solve business-related problems.

Center for Servant Leadership Mission Statement:
The Bethany College Center for Servant Leadership will promote the awareness, understanding, and practice of servant leadership by individuals and organizations. The program goals and objectives are:

  1. to merge the knowledge and skills of “service to others” and “leading others” in all participants and graduates regardless of the path they are following,
  2. to build a more just, caring, and sustainable world with hope and prosperity for future generations,
  3. to advance the development of a caring, cooperating community, one that emphasizes service and involvement, a balanced approach to life and work, and sharing of responsibility and recognition,
  4. to develop the servant leadership skills of civic and community organizers, business managers and professionals, and college students, and
  5. to promote the wealth of trust by creating a sustainable funding source for program activities.

Operations Management Mission:

The mission of the Operations Management Program is to prepare students for careers that control the processes that determine outputs from businesses. The program will develop a student's proficiency in operating systems, quality management, product design, supply chain management, and inventory control.

An Operations Management graduate will:

  1. have an understanding of the steps that go into making a product or service and how to make each step as efficient and beneficial to the company as possible.
  2. be able to work effectively in a team-based environment.

Sports Management Mission:

The mission of the Sports Management Program is to prepare students to pursue careers in school and community-based programs, professional sports, and commercial and agency based programs.
