Bethany Preview Day Oct. 16

Junior and senior high school students are invited to visit the Bethany College campus on Bethany Preview Day, October 16.

Students and their families will get snapshot views of the Bethany College experience from alumni and current students, sit in on a mock college class and tour the campus. A tailgate lunch will also be provided with free admissions to the Bethany homecoming football game at 1:30 p.m.

Registration for the event begins at 9 a.m. in Lindquist Hall.

Bethany Ambassadors chosen for 2010-2011

Forty-four students have been chosen to serve as Bethany College Ambassadors for the 2010-2011 academic year. Ambassadors support the college’s recruiting efforts by giving campus tours to prospective students, hosting visitors to the campus and staffing visit days.

These students are selected for their ability to effectively relate the unique opportunities for learning and growth at Bethany to visitors of the college, primarily prospective students and their families. They also act as representatives of the college at a variety of events, such as Swede Days.

Bethany receives top ranking from US News and World Report

Earning the second highest spot for a Kansas college in its category, Bethany College has been ranked as 44th in the Midwest region of U.S. News and World Report’s 2011 “Best Regional Colleges”. This marks the fourth straight year that Bethany has been classified in the top tier of the Midwest region.

“The annual ranking is one way that visitors can gauge the college,” said Dean of Recruitment and Marketing Tricia Hawk. “Those associated with Bethany College know that we are more than a ranking. The experiences gained from our community outweigh any type of numerical ranking,” she said.

Bethany hires alumna for admissions position

Lisa Runnebaum Kidd will join the Bethany College Office of Admissions as an admissions representative. She will begin July 12.

At Bethany, Kidd will be responsible for marketing the college to prospective transfer and high school students. She will build relationships with prospective students and their parents through recruitment activities, events, travel and communication.

Kidd earned her bachelor of arts in criminal justice from Bethany in 2009. While at Bethany, she served as an academic resource coordinator and participated in the Law and Order Club and volleyball. In 2008, Kidd was named KCAC Player of the Year. She also earned first team all-KCAC honors three years and was a four time academic all-KCAC player. Last season, she served as an assistant volleyball coach at Bethany assisting in coaching fundamentals and recruiting student-athletes.

Bethany College announces 2010 orientation leaders

Forty Bethany students will be ready and waiting to greet incoming freshmen in the fall of 2010.

These students, known as orientation leaders, will work with the new Swede students during new student orientation. Teaming up in pairs, orientation leaders lead activities to help new students grow comfortable and familiar with the Bethany College community.

Each new orientation leader must submit an application and participate in a short interview. Jessica Schierling, associate dean for student life and director of career services, selects orientation leaders each year.

Students awarded top scholarships at Bethany

Bethany College is proud to announce the recipients of its Bethanian Scholarships, the college’s highest academic merit scholarships.

“This year’s competition for the Bethanian Scholarships was the largest the college has ever experienced. The quality of applicants exceeded all expectations. At Bethany, we value motivated students who strive to achieve the best, so we are proud to honor these four recipients with our top scholarship,” said Tricia Hawk, dean of recruitment and marketing at Bethany.
