What is Campus Green?
Campus Green is an initiative to provide the college and its students with a campus landscape that befits our high-quality education and the Kansas environment.

Through the generosity and leadership of Bethany alumnus and former board member Sidney Stolz, class of 1982, Bethany began the Campus Green project in August 2006.

Stolz’s foundational gift has funded phase one of the project. Phase one involves
  • Removing existing streets between Presser and Alma Swensson Hall, to be replaced by brick drive
  • Moving utilities in steam tunnel between Presser and Alma Swensson to the bottom of the tunnel, then filling the tunnel
  • Installing a circle drive and drop-off just east of the Presser Hall main entrance
  • Placing the Carl Aaron Swensson statue in the center of the circle
The first phase will provide an easily identifiable, attractive campus entrance that highlights the college’s unique heritage. It will also make Presser more accessible to patrons of the college’s many cultural events.

The long term goals include:
  • Providing an attractive and sustainable landscape for the college, in keeping with the college’s core value of sustainability
  • Removing old streets from campus, to create open, attractive green space
  • Remedying the long-time problems of sidewalk degradation and sinkholes created by campus tunnels
  • Upgrading parking facilities on campus
  • Creating a long-term, unified plan for campus landscaping, including plantings and sidewalks
Other phases of the project will be completed as funding is raised. Future phases include
  • Resurfacing and landscaping Hahn parking lot
  • Removing the remaining streets on campus
  • Installing automotive watering systems and landscaping plants compatible with the Kansas environment
On the occasion of the 125th anniversary of the college, Campus Green is a fitting way for alumni, parents and friends of the college to say thank you. A Campus Green gift above and beyond regular annual-fund giving will make a visible difference in the campus landscape and make the college more attractive to prospective students and visitors. For more information on how you can be a part of the Campus Green gift, contact the Bethany College office of advancement at (785) 227-3311, ext. 8271, or norlinj@bethanylb.edu.
