I was born and raised in Kansas City, MO, took my B.A. at Conception Seminary College, and my M.A. and Ph.D. (all in philosophy) at the University of Missouri-Columbia. I began teaching at Bethany in 1991, after having taught 15 years at Conception Seminary. My Master's thesis was on A.N. Whitehead's account of religious experience, and my Ph.D. dissertation was on the religious metaphysics of the late Greek philosopher Plotinus. I have published articles on the ties between Plotinus and some contemporary thinkers such as Heidegger and Nietzsche, and have maintained a strong interest in contemporary theology. I am now completing a text on the history of philosophy, and aim to begin translating some philosophical works by the fifteenth century Neoplatonist mystic Denis the Carthusian.
