Chavez Named Conference, Region POW
LINDSBORG, Kan.— Brittney Chavez, Aurora, Colo., has been named KCAC (Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference) and NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) Region IV Position Player of the Week for week two.
Chavez, a freshman, plays short stop and second base for the Swedes. For the week (four games), Chavez had a .500 bat avg., four runs, two doubles and three RBIs at the four-game Oklahoma Christian Tournament. On day one of the tournament the Swedes lost 3-12 against Northwestern Oklahoma State and lost 0-6 against William Woods, who is ranked 14th in the NAIA. On day two the Swedes won 7-6 against Kansas Newman University and won 11-3 against Sterling College. The Swedes are 13-10 overall and ranked fourth in the region.
Prior to Bethany, Chavez attended Cherokee Trail High School in Aurora. There she earned all-conference, all-state and all-city athletic honors, and was named team MVP in 2004 and 2005. She also earned academic all-conference and all-state honors.
The Bethany softball Swedes have finished in the top four in the KCAC in 2005 and 2006, earning them appearances in the KCAC post-season tournaments both years. Each year numerous Softball Swedes earn KCAC and NAIA honors and are consistently named conference and regional players of the week.
Bethany College competes in 15 intercollegiate sports in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics. Since 1902, Bethany has won 136 conference championships.
