Professor David Slack
Associate Professor of Athletic Training and Academic Program Coordinator

David Slack began his undergraduate studies at Southern Utah State College in 1974. Following a two-year mission to Argentina for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, he earned a bachelor of science degree with an emphasis in athletic training at Utah State University (Logan, UT). After three years of public school teaching, David attended and graduated from Brigham Young University (Provo, UT) in 1986. His degree was in professional leadership in physical education and athletics.

David served as Head Athletic Trainer and later as Director of Intercollegiate Athletics at Brigham Young University-Hawaii (Laie, HI) from 1986-92. He then began Educational Doctorate studies in Sports Management at the University of Utah (Salt Lake City, UT). Following completion of coursework necessary for the degree he served as Executive Director of the Utah Summer Games (1994-98). The Utah Summer Games is a sports festival similar to the Sunflower State Games of Kansas that attracts over 7000 participants annually.

Since moving to Kansas in 1999, David completed his dissertation and a successful accreditation review at Washburn University. His dissertation was entitled "Risk Management Health Care Practices by Intercollegiate Athletic Trainers." The Washburn University athletic training education program became accredited in 2004. David's central focus at Bethany College is a successful accreditation review by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education.
