Diane is the lower school special education teacher at the American School of Brasília, in Brasília, DF, Brazil. She was selected by her peers to be the specialist coordinator for the lower school, meaning that she supports teachers and manages professional learning communities.
In June 2005, Diane and her husband Lander – a 1996 Bethany graduate – moved to Brasília, Lander's hometown. Since then, she has provided services in a "setting that typically does not provide special education services," as well as coached the school's girls' softball team.
Diane says her educational philosophy took root at Bethany: "The small school setting made me step up and make something of myself…I can't stand sitting on the sidelines complaining. I would rather get my hands dirty and find solutions to the problems."
