Bethany Students and Staff Help Preschoolers Build Ceramic Bird Bath and Feeder
Janie Tubbs, administrative assistant for the Bethany College art department, and two Bethany students helped preschoolers at the Little Tots Christian Child Development Center in Assaria create a ceramic bird bath and bird feeder.
Tubbs and Bethany students Gabriel Pionkowski of Topeka and Jennifer Margres of Sayreville, N.J., worked with the 3-, 4-, and 5-year-olds to create clay birds and nests. The creations were attached to a clay bird bath and bird feeder that Tubbs had made. The items were then fired and glazed at the art department.
The bird bath and bird feeder were given steel bases made by Tubbs under the direction of Bethany sculpture professor Ed Pogue.
Tubbs, Pionkowski and Margres presented the preschoolers and their teachers with the final products, which were installed in the yard of the Assaria Lutheran Church where the children will keep them filled with water and feed.
Bethany College, established by Swedish Lutheran immigrants in 1881, is a college of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. The mission of Bethany College is to nurture and challenge individuals in their search for truth and meaning as they live lives of faith, learning and service.
