Hello Alumni!

From the Director

This is my maiden voyage on the Bethany Alumni Update. I am a little (ok a lot) slow at getting this going but I am up and running now so watch out!

I am excited to be your new alumni director. It is a great team to work with here in the advancement office and what better place to work for but Bethany College. We alumni know what it did for us and it is awesome to get the opportunity to share the good news of what we offer to students, alumni, and friends.

The Alumni Council will be meeting August 26, 2006 at Bethany. See list of Alumni Council.

We are in the beginning stages of working with Harris Communication for the 16th year for our alumni directory. This process will begin full force in 2007 for a 2008 publication date. Stay tuned as more information will be shared.  

Alumni Awards

We are now accepting Award of Merit Nominations. Since 1952, the Bethany College Alumni Association has presented annually the Alumni Award of Merit to graduates of more than 20 years who have exemplified distinguished service in their professional lives while maintaining an interest in Bethany College. Recipients are nominated by former classmates or friends and selections are made by a vote of the Alumni Council. If you know someone that meets these qualities click here for nomination form MORE.

Advancement Updates

There are many exciting things happening around here as we finish the 05-06 fiscal year and begin the 06-07 year. Advancement had a very successful fund raising year and I will share that information in my next Update, coming soon as the end of July is nearly here and you are used to getting this on the "First Monday". I will strive to return to that schedule so be flexible with me. I know how important this information line is to alumni.

Anyway, back to the great things happening. We are "seeing" some changes around campus. The  football practice field has all new grass and looks great. Will be a great practice field to return to this fall. The snack bar has been torn out and the mail room will be moved to that location to centralize the mail and get more people coming that direction. Will be a great much needed expanded space for our mailing department and the students are excited to see that place come more alive with people. So check out the Pit area next time you are on campus as it will have a whole new look. Presser Lobby will be getting a face lift before the summer is over. Expect a formal announcement soon on the Campus Green project. (That's all I can tell you right now!)

And finally the thing I want most to share about is the Warner Painting Blitz '06 project! By the end of this weekend the entire building will be painted inside; rooms, lobbies, hallways, and stairwells. This has been completed entirely by volunteers, over 1000 hours total will have gone into this project by Sunday July, 23. They tell us that the building will also receive new carpeting, won't those students be surprised? Leon '64 and Judy '66 (Peterson) Burch have led the charge and charged they have! This would not have gotten done without their leadership and the friends and alumni of Bethany. We have had a lot of fun with this project click here for pictures. This will be an annual event.
