My goodness September completely got away from me. Here is the news!

Volunteers at the Kansas State Fair, THANK YOU!  

A great big thank you to all of you that volunteered at the State Fair this year. We had a total of 110 total volunteers. It was beautiful weather, many funnel cakes and turkey legs were eaten, and best of all we had many many new students enter the interest funnel for admissions. Thanks again to all!

September 1

 Michelle Hansen-Daberkow, '91is an Art Educator K-5 Lincoln Public Schools for the last 9 years and  an Art Educator in Nebraska for 15 years. She writes, "It's been a fun 4 wks. of sketching & painting. Our 3 year old(4 Sept 13) will enjoy a new hallway for Sunday School for a while. Our next project is painting the opening area as a view from inside of a temple. This summer I also put in 2 gardens at our elem. school(I had Callum in daycare 2-3 days a wk) so we have a new shade garden and a children's sensory garden in front of the Kahoa Elem. Office in Lincoln. Busy and fun."

Kevin Hay '98 recently left his position as a Manager in the International Transfer Pricing Practice at PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP to join the Treasury-Finance Group at RBC Capital Markets in Toronto, Ontario.

Charlie London '86 writes to tell us he has two daughters ages 14 and 16, both now great students in High School. He is a police lieutenant working with the Miami Beach Police Department, he has been with the department 18 years. He also works in SWAT.

September 4

Roy Patterson '87 writes, "I recently co-authored a science fiction novel called I'M BACK...and the Truth Hurts! A Novel by Joseph Edwards. In this story, charges have been brought against the 3rd planet from the Sun. You can find it at any online book seller - www.barnesandnoble.com, www.amazon.com, etc. - in hard cover, paperback, or e-Book. Note: That's my picture on the cover."

Linda (Wilt) Nightengale '89 lets us know, "After being at home with my girls for the past 7 years, I have started back to work, and have accepted a position as a school counselor at French Middle. School in the Topeka - 501 School District."

September 10

Professor Marsha Durham ('70) recently retired from the University of Western Sydney, Australia. Marsha taught and researched in the Communication field, and was also Dean of Students and Chair of the university's Academic Senate. Now located with her husband in a small town in the Blue Mountains, a World Heritage area, Marsha is enjoying bushwalking and creative writing.

September 12

Amy Urban '99 wrote to tell us, "I moved back to my hometown of Dodge City in March of 2006. I decided to leave Wichita and move home to be closer to my family. I am currently working at Landmark National Bank as a Senior Commercial Loan Clerk in our centralized commercial loan processing department that covers all of the commercial lending for all of our 20+ branches. In July of 2006, I got engaged to Marc Lindal. We are planning a September 1, 2007 wedding here in Dodge City. I will be getting not only the most wonderful man as my husband, but three step-children as well; Madeline-14, Nathaniel-7, and John-5! We are so excited to begin our lives together as a family, and add a couple more in the future."

Marci (Rolph) Maschino '97 is serving as interim professor of accounting for the fall semester. She is teaching two classes. She is filling in for Barb Mohler-Spear whose husband, Willie, continues to recover from heart surgery.

Mischia Wright '85 was recently promoted to senior manager of The Environmental Institute for Golf, responsible for managing the day-to-day operations and fund raising activities to enhance the game of golf with our natural environment. The EIFG is the philanthropic organization of the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America located in Lawrence, Kan.

September 15

Phil Merz '96 recently took a job with Boulevard Brewing Company. He is the Off-Premise Sales Manager for Greater Kansas City.

Inez Olson '45 has spent most of her life as a missionary. She was recently featured in the Hutchinson News. Read the whole whole.

Arthur Jones '97 is presently working for the New York Times as an illustrator and graphic designer.

Bryon '95 and Leanne Grauerholz announce the birth of a son, Benjamin Luke, born October 25, 2005.  
 
Traci '04 and Chris Baker '01 had twin boys on August 6th.  Their names are Gabriel Henry and Ezekial Craig.
 
Carol (Yake) Moddelmog '95 and Chris Moddelmog '94, Salina, KS are the parents of a daughter, Allison Christine born August 13, 2006.  Allison was welcomed home by her sister Katie age 4.

Volunteers
 
On September 16  Bethany Volunteers hosted a Bethany Garden Blitz. 18 friends and alumni converged for a weed pulling, mulching, and planting fest to clean up flowerbeds on campus. A total of 55.75 hours were donated in this project. A huge thanks to all involved. This charge was lead by Bob Kruger, 62 who recently moved to Lindsborg from Mayville, North Dakota.
