BETHANY HOSTS ALTERNATIVE GIFT MARKET

Unique holiday gifts will be available at the annual Bethany College Alternative Gift Market Friday and Saturday, Dec. 1 and 2, in the Levin Room of the Pihlblad Memorial Union.
            Hours are 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday.
The public is invited to attend.
The Alternative Gift Market, part of Alternative Gifts International, allows shoppers to “purchase” donations for groups around the world. For example, shoppers can buy clean water for an African village, then send a card to a friend or relative notifying them of the gift in their honor.
            Gifts for sale include:
milk for preschoolers in Gaza Strip,
goats for food security in Ethiopia,
            free wheelchairs in Cambodia,
phones and radios for healthcare workers in Africa,
safe havens for lost kids in Kenya,
            green education in Haiti,
Let the Blind See in Guatemala,
Single Moms Step Forward in the U.S.,
The Gift of Trees in Haiti and Dominican Republic,
Wealth of the Rainforest in Panama and Nicaragua,
rescue for children at risk in China, and
Young Peace Builders in the U.S. and globally.
Handcrafted items also will be sold, along with home-baked goods. All proceeds go to Alternative Gifts International.
This is the third year for Alternative Gift Market collectible ornaments. This year the ornaments are small knitted items designed and made by Jennifer Greenup, director of the alumni office. They were made in honor of Knit Wits, an intergenerational service group of knitters at Bethany College and in Lindsborg.
Refreshments will be available at the market.
