HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS ATTEND BETHANY COLLEGE
ART WORKSHOP DAY
Fifty-two high school students from Kansas and Nebraska and their teachers attended Art Workshop Day at Bethany College on Oct.17.
The students took a college-level art class with either Caroline Kahler, jewelry; Frank Shaw, charcoal drawing; or Ed Pogue, sculpture. These full-time faculty members were assisted by Bethany College undergraduate teaching assistants.
The students explored materials and content and participated in critiques. They also had the opportunity to interact with the art faculty and Bethany students.
The teachers visited the Sandzén Memorial Gallery and Birger Sandzén Studio. Sandzén was a long-time art professor at the college.
The teachers also learned to stretch a drum head over a clay drum and shared lesson plan ideas with their fellow teachers.
