BETHANY COLLEGE CHOIRS TO MAKE SPRING TOUR

Bethany College’s College Choir and Chamber Choir will perform in Topeka, Kansas City, Mo., and Manhattan, Kan. as a part of their spring tour.

             Concerts will be held at First Lutheran Church in Topeka on Saturday, April 21, at 7 p.m.; at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Kansas City, Mo., on Sunday, April 22 at 5 p.m.; and at First Lutheran Church in Manhattan, Kan., on Monday, April 23, at 7 p.m.

The concerts are free and open to the public.

            The choirs, under the direction of Daniel Mahraun, associate professor of music, will perform sacred and secular music from the 16^th to the 21^st centuries, including love songs with texts from Shakespeare’s works and the Song of Solomon; music of African and African-American origin and influence; works for European cathedrals by Heinrich Schütz, Herbert Howells and Javier Busto; and works by Swedish composers Eskil Hemberg, Sven-Eric Johanson and Waldemar Åhén.

            The concert also includes “A Boy and a Girl” by Eric Whitacre, one of today’s most widely-performed choral composers.
