BETHANY COLLEGE CHOIRS TO MAKE SPRING TOUR
Bethany College’s College Choir and Chamber Choir will perform in Topeka, Kansas City, Mo., and Manhattan, Kan. as a part of their spring tour.
Concerts will be held at First Lutheran Church in Topeka on Saturday, April 21, at 7 p.m.; at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Kansas City, Mo., on Sunday, April 22 at 5 p.m.; and at First Lutheran Church in Manhattan, Kan., on Monday, April 23, at 7 p.m.
The concerts are free and open to the public.
The choirs, under the direction of Daniel Mahraun, associate professor of music, will perform sacred and secular music from the 16th to the 21st centuries, including love songs with texts from Shakespeare’s works and the Song of Solomon; music of African and African-American origin and influence; works for European cathedrals by Heinrich Schütz, Herbert Howells and Javier Busto; and works by Swedish composers Eskil Hemberg, Sven-Eric Johanson and Waldemar Åhén.
The concert also includes “A Boy and a Girl” by Eric Whitacre, one of today’s most widely-performed choral composers.
