MOTHER AND DAUGTHER TAKE CLASS TOGETHER

Bethany College Alumni Director Jennifer Greenup, and her daughter Katie, a Bethany junior criminal justice major, are taking a Bethany class together this semester.
The two are taking “White Collar Crime,” taught by associate professor of criminal justice David Admire.
Jennifer, a 1984 graduate of Bethany, and her daughter are both interested in the field of criminology. “Katie showed me her schedule and the course caught my eye,” Jennifer said.
“I am a really interested in the class subject.,” Katie said. “This is the kind of law that I am thinking of going into.”
The two share a book and sometimes discuss the class with each other. However, it is the mother who is asking her daughter for some guidance. “I had Katie look over the first assignment to make sure I was on the right track,” Jennifer said.
Katie enjoys spending time with her mom. “I think that other students think that it is weird that she is in the class with me, but I like seeing her and its fun to go through the class together,” Katie added.
Students can also benefit from Jennifer’s life experience. “She gives college students a different perspective on the "real world" as well as being someone who is out in the working world dealing with possible situations of white collar crime. I think that she adds to positively to class discussions,” Katie said.
Jennifer also uses the classroom experience as a way to maintain contact with students and improve her work with development. “Donors want to know about the classroom and the students. Now, I can give them that perspective,” she said.
