Bethany News--Interim President Named
VOGEL NAMED INTERIM PRESIDENT OF BETHANY COLLLEGE
The Bethany College board of directors has named Dr. Robert Vogel, retired president of Wartburg College, as interim president.
Vogel will begin his duties on Monday, January 15.
Vogel is a native of Phillipsburg, Kan., and retired as president of Wartburg College in 1998 after serving there for 18 years. Since his retirement he has served as interim president at Grand View College in Des Moines, Iowa, and Waldorf College in Forest City, Iowa. All three schools are colleges of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), as is Bethany College.
Vogel is a graduate of Wartburg College and Wartburg Theological Seminary. He was ordained in 1960 and served parishes in Golden and Denver, Colo.
He lives with his wife Sally in Denver.
“The Board overwhelmingly supported the selection of Dr. Vogel as the interim president,” said Tad Doering, Bethany board chair. “All felt his skills were right for Bethany College."
“We have much confidence in Dr. Vogel and the talents he will bring to the campus and extended community of Bethany.  His experience as both a college president and an interim president will help us as we move through this time of transition to a new college president," Doering said. "We look forward to introducing Dr. Vogel to the campus, the town of Lindsborg and the wider community of Bethany on January 15th."
“A change in presidential leadership is always a challenge for a college, and an opportunity,” said Vogel. “Bethany is a special place. The board expects us to manage the affairs of the college well during the interim, to keep the focus on the students and the rich learning experience Bethany provides, and to what is needed to ensure 2007-08 is an outstanding year for students, for the college and for the new president.
“I am excited about being on a campus again, interacting with students, faculty and staff, participating in chapel and attending concerts, athletic events and lectures.
“Lindsborg is also a special community. My wife and I look forward to experiencing what Lindsborg is all about during our time there,” he said.
Two open houses on Monday, Jan.15, will introduce Vogel to the Bethany and area communities. A Bethany College welcome and open house will be held from 2-3 p.m. in Lindquist Hall. Remarks will be at 2:30 p.m. All faculty, staff and students are invited.
An open house for the public will be held at the Community Room of the Bank of America in Lindsborg from 5-6:30 p.m. Remarks will be at 5:30 and 6:15 p.m.
Dr. Paul Formo, president of Bethany College for the past five years, announced in December his retirement from the position. An active search for a permanent president is currently being developed and planned.
