Mahraun to Give Vocal Recital at Bethany College
Daniel A. Mahraun, baritone, will give a recital featuring the music of minstrels at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, November 7, in Presser Hall on Bethany College’s campus.
The recital is free and open to the public.
His program will include “Chansons gaillardes” by Francis Poulenc; “By the Waters of Babylon: A Rhapsody” by Herbert Howells; selections from “Songs of Travel” by Ralph Vaughan Williams; and selected songs by Stephen Foster.
Mahraun’s collaborative pianist will be Daniel J. Masterson, and the program will include special guests Melody T. Steed, organ; Ruth Ann Leaf, violin; and Linda Lungstrom, cello.
Mahraun, Elmer F. Pierson Distinguished Professor of Music, joined the faculty of Bethany College in the fall of 2000 as Director of Choral/Vocal Activities. Mahraun holds a BME degree from Wartburg College, master’s degrees in conducting and performance from the University of Northern Iowa and a DMA degree in the literature and performance of choral music from the University of Colorado at Boulder.
He serves as conductor of the Bethany College Choir, Chamber Choir and the Oratorio Society. He teaches voice, aural skills and choral pedagogy. His credits as a lyric baritone include opera, oratorio and frequent recitals.
Bethany College is under construction and the front entrance to Presser Hall may be blocked. Patrons are asked to enter through the south side door. This entrance is disability accessible, and a drop-off area is available behind Presser Hall on Second Street.
