The Presidential Search Advisory Committee (PSAC) held its first meeting Feb. 7 on the Bethany College campus. According to Kathleen Hurty, chair of the PSAC, "the committee, with all members present, took time to get fully acquainted with each other, reviewed the charge from the Bethany College board, adopted a code of ethics, engaged in a discussion of the search process itself and worked on finalizing a institutional profile that will help introduce Bethany to prospective candidates."
Committee members committed themselves to complete confidentiality regarding all applicants and committee discussions. At the same time, the process will be transparent, with updates published regularly on campus, in the community and on the Bethany Web site. Tad Doering, Bethany board chair, who attends the PSAC meetings ex officio, gave assurances that "all applicants will be given full and fair treatment."
The committee's goal is to present the names of finalists to the board in a timely fashion so that the new president, who will be selected by the board, will be able to start at the beginning of the fall semester.
The committee, Hurty noted, "clearly has the energy and enthusiasm to work together throughout the spring and early summer to identify, interview, and vet a stellar group of candidates who match Bethany's needs and vision for the future.”
Nominations, along with comments and questions, may be given to Dr. Bill Franklin, Bethany's senior consultant from Academic Search. He can be contacted through e-mail: bjf@academic-search.com. Advertisements announcing the position will soon be placed in the Chronicle of Higher Education and through several academic on-line position listings.
