PRESIDENTIAL SELECTION PROCESS STARTS AT BETHANY COLLEGE
A committee has been appointed and a search firm chosen to help in the selection of a new president at Bethany College.
Bethany board member Kathleen Hurty, Oakland, Calif., will chair the presidential search advisory committee. Other members of the committee are board members Ross Tidemann, Wichita, and Don Anderson, Lindsborg; Bob Carlson, chair of Bethany’s faculty senate; Linda Lewis, professor of English; Brenda Meagher, director of financial aid; Charlotte Anderson, administrative assistant for student life; Kimberly Streit, Tipton, Kan., student representative; Kris Ericson, Albuquerque, Alumni Council representative; Mark Lysell, Lindsborg, community representative; Reuben Swanson, Ft. Collins, Colo., Lutheran leader; and Arne Selbyg (Marilyn Olson, alternate), Chicago, with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
The committee will be involved in all steps of the process, from hearing public comment to interviewing the candidates. The final presidential selection will be made by the Bethany board of directors.
Academic Search, Inc. of Washington, D. C. has been hired to manage the search for the president, with senior consultant Bill Franklin working directly with Bethany College.
The firm will analyze the needs of the college, recruit and evaluate a candidate pool, coordinate interviews with the candidates and facilitate the board’s appointment of the next president.
Academic Search, Inc. was founded in 1976 to provide colleges with professional and individualized search services. Since 1997 the company has successfully conducted 297 presidential searches; 80 percent of those recruited with the assistance of Academic Search in the past 10 years are still in office.
Plans call for the search to begin immediately and to be completed during the summer.
“We have the utmost confidence in the selection committee, with the assistance of Academic Search,” said Tad Doering, chair of the Bethany board of directors. “We know that there are very well qualified candidates out there, and the work of the committee and the search firm will lead us to the right person for Bethany College.”
Franklin will gather opinions and ideas from interested area residents on Tuesday, Jan. 16, from 4:45 to 5:45 p.m. at the Bank of America Community Room.
Anyone wishing to comment about the search process or candidates may email Bill Franklin at bjf@academic-search.com.
