SCOREBOARD DEDICATION RESCHEDULED
The dedication of the Bethany College baseball scoreboard to the memory of Roger Bishop, a faculty member at Bethany for 36 years who died in the fall of 2005, has been rescheduled for Friday, April 20, before the 4 p.m. baseball game with the University of St. Mary.
In an ironic twist, the original dedication of the scoreboard to Bishop, who provided weather information to the Lindsborg News-Record for years, was canceled due to rainy weather.
The scoreboard has been refurbished with funds donated in Bishop’s name by friends and family.
Bishop was a professor of psychology and was at one time head of the department of psychology. His widow, Genevieve Bishop, teaches music at Bethany and two of his children—Katie and Andrew--are graduates. He also has two other children: Sara and Tim.
Bishop was an ardent baseball fan. “My dad spent countless hours heckling the opposing team’s pitchers and players,” said Katie Bishop. “He loved the sport more than anything.”
“Roger was passionate about the Cardinals and a very vocal Swede baseball supporter,” said Joyce Pigge, professor of political science and friend of Roger’s. “More than one umpire came to know Roger’s booming voice—always in good taste—but cheering on his Swedes.”
