Bethany News--Student Journals

STUDENT JOURNALS INFORM PROSPECTIVE STUDENTS ABOUT BETHANY

The daily lives of Bethany students can now be followed in student journals that appear on the college’s website.
The journals, by four Bethany students, began in October and are updated weekly. They can be accessed on the Bethany website at www.bethanylb.edu.
Sharon Spohn, admissions officer and supervisor of the journals, said “it was suggested that we find another way to present the college to prospective students through the students’ eyes.”
The authors of the journal are Keegan Francis, sophomore, Beloit, Kan.; Majkin Holmquist, senior, Smolan, Kan.; Nhial Malia, sophomore, Highlands, Tex.; and Megan Pound, junior, Lyons, Kan.
Francis thinks that students should get the real story. “Adults may only tell the positives. As a student, I am telling it like it is. I include the positives and negatives because that’s what’s real,” she said.
The goal in selecting the journalists was to encompass as much diversity as possible. This aids in giving prospective students an idea of life on campus from different vantage points, according to Spohn.
“Mostly I write about what’s happening in my life. I include the different Student Activities Board events, dorm life, my personal experiences and what’s going on in my classes,” Pound said. “When I was looking at colleges, I listened to what the students said because they’re not being told what to say,” she added.
The students send Spohn their updated journals at the end of every week. Spohn then posts the new journal entries for readers. They can be found under the future students link on the home page.
