BETHANY COLLEGE TO CELEBRATE MOVING OF SWENSSON SCULPTURE

Bethany College will celebrate the moving of the Carl Aaron Swensson sculpture on Tuesday, March 13, at 3:15 p.m., in the circular drive in front of Presser Hall.

The public is invited to gather at the new circle entrance for a short ceremony.

The moving of the sculpture is part of the Campus Green revitalization of Bethany College, which includes new sidewalks, new plantings, the paving of parking lots and a new entrance to the campus on First Street, where the sculpture will stand.

Swensson founded Bethany College in 1881 and served as it president from 1889-1904. The sculpture was once located in front of Old Main, the primary building on campus, and was moved in 1968 when Old Main was razed. It has been in place on Swensson Street near Second Street since then.  It was carved of marble in Italy and brought to the college in 1907.

Bethany students and staff will take part in the moving ceremony. Interim President Robert Vogel will speak during the ceremony.

In case of inclement weather, the moving of the sculpture and the celebration will be postponed.
