BETHANY SYMPHONIC BAND TO PERFORM IN MESSIAH FESTIVAL

The Bethany Symphonic Band will perform as a part of the 2007 Messiah Festival on Monday, April 2, at 7:30 p.m. in Presser Hall.  Doug Talbott, associate professor of music, will conduct.

            The concert is free and open to the public. 

Works on the program include “Symphonia Glorioso” a celebration fanfare by David Holsinger; “Sing My Tongue, Alleluia,” a work by John Zdechlik based on the plainsong chant “Pange Lingua”; “Were You There?” a work by John Lynch based on the traditional hymn; and “The Witch and the Saint,” a work by Steve Reineke based on a novel by Ulrike Schweidert about twin sisters born in 1588.

“A Grand Grand Overture,” by Malcolm Arnold, features four surprise guests performing on three vacuum cleaners and one electric floor polisher.

“Gettysburg: The Third Day” by Jay Dawson, will begin with Carl Isaacson, associate professor of communication, giving a monolog in costume from the point of view of a union soldier.

Guest conductor, Professor Emeritus David Higbee, will conduct “My Jesus! Oh, What Anquish” by J. S. Bach.

 Band member Jordan Smith of Lindsborg will perform an organ solo titled “Prelude, Fugue and Chaconne” by Buxtehude.
