BETHANY COLLEGE RECEIVES THRIVENT GRANT
Bethany College has received a $24,485 grant from the Thrivent Financial for Lutherans Foundation designated to generate thousands more in financial gifts to the college.
The grant is one of 75 awarded by the foundation as a part of its $4.8 million Charitable Gifting Initiative program.
The project, “Called to Give, Sent to Serve,” will fund the development of an endowment that will provide need-based grants to enable good students with exceptional need to attend Bethany. Specifically, it will fund research needed to establish the endowment and planned giving workshops in communities throughout Kansas.
The project leader will work with students and alumni and staff of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America to implement the project.
“The need for an endowment to support need-based aid for Bethany students is clear and urgent,” said Jayne Norlin, associate vice president for development. “We have an identified group of alumni and friends, many of whom will be willing, perhaps even eager, to support such an endeavor.”
“It is our hope that this grant will strengthen Bethany’s ability to inform potential donors of various options available to them to financially support Bethany’s work,” said Brad Hewitt, president of the Thrivent Financial for Lutherans Foundation. “As people come alongside Bethany with charitable gifts, Bethany will become increasingly effective in carrying out its mission.”
