HANZLICK’S ART TO BE EXHIBITED AT BETHANY

The senior art exhibit of Jessica Hanzlick will be April 19-24 in the Mingenback Art Center Gallery at Bethany College.

The artist’s reception will be Sunday, April 22, from 2-4 p.m., with a gallery talk at 2:30 p.m.

The exhibit will consist of paintings, drawings, jewelry, ceramics, sculpture and photography.

The art has been influenced by Hanzlick’s study abroad experience in Florence, Italy. “Just to see how differently people there embrace each other with a kind hug and kiss every time they saw each other really opened up my mind to the importance of touch,” said Hanzlick. “In my paintings I have been trying to portray that difference of touch and the feelings that are held in a simple touch whether good or bad.”

“My art is a form of therapy and helps me challenge myself to face things and then grow,” she said.

Hanzlick is from Hill City, Kan., and is the daughter of Jerry and Joyce Hanzlick. She is a studio art major with a concentration in painting and art therapy. She will attend Southern Illinois University Edwardsville and study art therapy and counseling after graduation.
