BETHANY COLLEGE TO BEGIN CAMPUS CONSTRUCTION
LINDSBORG, Kan.— The Bethany board executive committee has approved construction of phase one of the Campus Green project. The project is possible thanks to a generous gift from an alumnus and past board member.
The Campus Green project has been under development for several months, and fundraising for the project previously was authorized by the board. Construction begins Aug. 1.
Bethany College Director of Operations, Jeff Barkman, said this phase of the project will allow better access to Presser Hall by the public. “Both parents with small children and the elderly will benefit from the new drop-off area in front of Presser Hall,” Barkman said.
Sid Stoltz, class of 1983, made a foundational gift to the project. His gift will be used to complete a true front entrance for the campus. Phase one of the project involves: · creating a circle drive and installing a fountain east of Presser's main entrance · moving the Carl Aaron Swensson statue to the center of the fountain
The project will give the public more convenient access to Presser and the campus an attractive, easily identifiable entrance.
The full Campus Green project calls for a complete overhaul of the central campus landscape, including removal of old streets, replacement and repair of sidewalks, and new landscaping. Bethany College, established by Swedish Lutheran immigrants in 1881, is a college of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. The mission of Bethany College is to nurture and challenge individuals in their search for truth and meaning as they lead lives of faith, learning and service.
