BETHANY STUDENTS SELECT HOMECOMING ROYALTY

LINDSBORG, Kan.—Twenty Bethany College students were elected to the 2007 Homecoming court during the college’s recent Homecoming festivities.
            Every year, Bethany students elect ten female and ten male senior students to be Homecoming candidates. After a second round of voting, this year’s Homecoming royalty were crowned Oct. 12 at the Homecoming talent show.
             Kelli Noonan, Salina, Kan., was crowned 2007 Homecoming queen. Homecoming king was Gabe Harter, Hiawatha, Kan.
Noonan is majoring in athletic training. She is vice president of the senior class, a student athletic trainer and a member of Bio-Chem Club. She has played volleyball and softball at Bethany for four years.
Harter, a biology major, has been involved in basketball, Tri-Beta Biological Honor Society, College Council and the honors program. He is treasurer of Student Congress, senior resident for Gregory Hall and a Bethany Ambassador. He is the son of Dennis and Karla Harter.
            First runners-up were Kimberly Streit, Tipton, Kan., and Ryan Maddy, Norton, Kan.
Streit, a social work and psychology major, has been involved in the advocacy team, Knit Wits, Gold Key, the honors program and Peer Ministry. She has served on the Presidential Search Committee and the Alternative Gift Market Committee. Streit is the daughter of Gary and Janelle Streit.
Maddy is majoring in accounting, finance and business management. He has participated in basketball, and currently is assistant coach for men’s basketball at Bethany. Maddy is the son of Rod and Tammy Maddy.
Second runners-up were Michelle Hinman, Longmont, Colo., and Larry Harris, Houston, Texas.
            Hinman is majoring in math education with a middle-level math endorsement and a minor in philosophy. She currently is student teaching geometry and trigonometry at Smoky Valley High School in Lindsborg. At Bethany, she is a member of the honors program and has played tennis for four years. She is the student representative to the board of directors, as well as a member of Student Congress, Gold Key, Beta Tau Sigma, Multicultural Student Union, Teacher Education Advisory Council and Bethany Student Education Association. Hinman is the daughter of Mark and Ann Hinman.
Harris, a physical health and wellness major, has been involved in football, track and baseball. He is the son of Larry and Monica Harris.
Other 2007 Homecoming candidates were:
  • Dylan Bryant, a biology major from Hays, Kan. He has participated in football, Tri-Beta, Bio-Chem Club and Bethany intramurals. Bryant is the son of Patrick and Trish Bryant and Shawn and James Mulkey.
  • Jay Corwin, a biology major from Quinter, Kan. He has participated in football and track for four years, and been a staff member for Bethany intramurals. He has also participated in Bio-Chem Club, Tri-Beta Biological Honor Society, Bethany College Choir and Oratorio Society. Corwin is the son of Robert and Jayme Corwin.
  • Adam Esses, a secondary math education major from Littleton, Colo. While at Bethany, he has served as a hall representative and secretary in Student Congress. He currently is president of Student Congress. Esses also has been involved in Fellowship of Christian Athletes, the Messenger, Bethany Student Education Association and the 125th Anniversary Commission. He has served as head manager for men’s basketball and currently is the student assistant coach and junior varsity coach. Esses is the son of Steven and Karen Esses.
  • Josh Gooch, a secondary math education major from Tribune, Kan. He has been involved in basketball for four years and has served as a math tutor for three years. Gooch is the son of Dwight and Ronda Gooch.
  • Cedric Ryan Johnson, a biology major from Edmond, Okla. He is a four-year letterman and senior captain of the football team at Bethany, as well as resident assistant for Warner Hall. Johnson is the son of David and Cheryl Johnson.
  • Dustin Vaughan, a biology major from Manhattan, Kan. He is involved in baseball, Bio-Chem Club, Tri-Beta Biological Honor Society, Blue Key and Beta Tau Sigma. He also is a Bethany College Ambassador and an orientation leader. Vaughan is the son of Jan and the late Mike Vaughan.
  • Nathan Whitcomb, from Cottonwood Falls, Kan., a physical health and wellness major with a minor in forensic science. At Bethany, he has participated in football and both outdoor and indoor track & field. He has competed in six NAIA national track & field championships. Whitcomb has been president of the junior class, practice assistant for wrestling at Smoky Valley High School and a member of the Bethany College Choir. He is the son of Matthew and Connie Whitcomb.
  • Kelsy Concannon, a biology and chemistry major from Beloit, Kan. At Bethany, she has been involved in Student Advisory Board, Tri-Beta Biological Honor Society and Bio-Chem Club. She is president of the senior class. Concannon is the daughter of Craig and Susan Concannon.
  • Whittney Cummings, from Orlando, Fla., a business finance, marketing and management major with a minor in computer applications. While at Bethany she has been part of Business Club, the Business Career Conference Committee, Knit Wits and Student Congress concessions. She also has served as an orientation leader and ambassador for the campus experience. Cummings is the daughter of Andrew and Donna Cummings.
  • Sarah Helm, a marketing and business management major from Seneca, Kan. She has participated in track & field and cross country at Bethany College, as well as serving as president of the Business Club and co-chair of the Business Career Conference Committee. Helm is the daughter of Todd and Odette Helm.
  • Tessa Howard, a biology major from Sharon Springs, Kan. She has been involved in peer ministry, Tri-Beta Biological Honor Society, Gold Key, Campus Ministry Coordinators and the honors program. She has been president of Bio-Chem Club and chaplain of Student Congress. She also was the co-founder of Bethany’s campus chapter of Habitat for Humanity. Howard is the daughter of Dennis and Jean Sharp.
  • Shanda Kilian, a criminal justice and business management major from Russell, Kan. At Bethany, she has been involved in tennis, the criminal justice honor society, Law & Order Club and Bethany intramurals staff. Kilian is the daughter of Rick and Robin Kilian.
  • Kimber Peterson, from Lindsborg, Kan., who is majoring in studio art with a concentration in ceramics. She is the daughter of Terry and Susan Peterson.
  • Megan Pound, Lyons, Kan., who is majoring in biology with a minor in forensic science. While at Bethany, she has been involved in Bethany Cheer Squad, Student Activities Board, Tri-Beta Biological Honor Society and Bio-Chem Club. She has served as an orientation leader and academic resource coordinator for Bethany Seminar. Pound is the daughter of Terry and Cindy Pound.
